Anna Koulouris has worked in communications for the Patriarchate of Jerusalem for the past decade. She has a dual degree in Journalism and Middle Eastern Studies from Syracuse University and a Master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh. She is originally from Syracuse, New York and is a former PIJ intern.
As independent, visible, ancient guardians of holy sites, as well as the largest landowners
after the state, churches have emerged as a symbol of what radicals seek to change
about Jerusalem.
The Patriarchate of Jerusalem has thrived amid political turmoil through its strong ties
with Muslim-majority nations and focusing on its purely spiritual mission.
