A war was launched in our region, one without clear and coherent justification or international legitimization. Over l0 million people around the world have taken to the streets in protest, and we at the Palestine-Israel Journal, Israelis and Palestinians, add our voice to this opposition.
A doctrine of illegal, "preemptive" war undermines the international order established after World War II, and it must be rejected. A Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction is a necessary and worthy goal, but it should be achieved through a process of negotiations and inspections, backed by an international treaty.
Regime change, when it occurs, should be the result of a free and democratic internal process, not imposed by force from outside. Our region needs a strong UN and relations between countries and peoples based upon the rule of law.
War and violence are not the means for resolving conflicts.
