Salman Natour: (1949-2016) was a Palestinian writer and novelist born in Daliyat al-Karmel south of Haifa in 1949. He graduated from his hometown's high school and later completed his higher education in Jerusalem and Haifa. He was cultural editor for Al-Ittihad newspaper. Natour published approximately 30 books, among which was one in Hebrew, a number in Arabic, and four children’s books. This piece is taken from a collection of short stories titled The Tree That Extends Its Roots to My Chest, published by the al-Aswar Association in Acre (Akka), in 1978.
