Baria Ahmar is a journalist, writer and translator; political
analyst; media expert; and women’s rights and peace
activist. She is co-coordinator for Parliamentarians for
Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND) and
a PhD candidate at Sherbrooke University, Canada.
Including women in peacemaking processes adds a broader range of perspectives
and enhances the ability of peacemakers to address the concerns of a wider range of
stakeholders, which, in turn, leads to more sustainable peace.
To ensure national, regional and global security, Israel must join the process of creating
a nuclear weapons-free zone, recognizing that peace is not a precondition for such a
zone but a part of it.
